I think i have a Loot Guilt Panic Disorder. dunno. i just can't seem to roll on loot. when loot boxes pop up and it is plate, my brain freaks out and i start to panic. during this panic, i also completely blank out on what i'm wearing, what i have in the bank, and who i am. i'm just a spectator, right? i'm just here for the ride? NO! i'm part of a team, i'm told /shake /shake. only after i impulsively hit "pass" do i realize what i have done. i don't regret passing, but i realize later how maybe hitting "need" might have been...... a better choice.
i have an almost insurmountable amount of loot guilt. i have heard so many horror stories about people arguing over loot, becoming jealous/envious over loot, or just plain getting upset. whatever any of THAT is, i'd like NO PART OF IT. so! i /pass. those bracers just aren't worth upsetting anyone, especially myself! only because i'd feel horrible if won against a friend. or a better player. or really, anyone, at this point. i am a WoW scavenger, picking up the scraps that everyone leaves behind. really, i'll take those leftovers - those are the only pieces of loot that are truly guilt-free. cos either i equip it or it goes in the trash (ok, actually, it gets DE'd, but it sounds more dramatic when i say "trash").
besides the paranoia of upsetting someone, i also want everyone else to enjoy their game. although i like playing my best, i certainly don't want to keep anyone from playing theirs, at the same time. i'd rather see good gear go to better players and even to those who care just a little more than i do.
however, the problem, i'm realizing, with this reasoning, is that i'm actually part of a team. me. i actually provide a function and (/gasp) those very people i admire are like....depending on me? it would be a disservice to them to be undgergeared and struggling. so..... if i could somehow muster up enough courage to hit "need" or /w "bid," i think it might be more beneficial to the raid? right? am i getting this right? people will be more mad at me for NOT looting than for looting? gosh, this is so backwards from what usually happens, isn't it. /deep breath. ok, so now to work on not completely blanking and hiding under my desk saying "lalalalala i can't hear you!" with my eyes shut when loot windows appear.

Not only are you PART of a team, at times, you are the FOCUS of the team as the Tank.
Many very significant aspects of the fight revolve around you and the gear you're wearing. You having BETTER gear means healers have more room to respond to emergencies elsewhere or reposition. You having BETTER gear means you generate more threat faster meaning DPS can let loose faster and without holding back which shortens the fight.
In a lot of ways, you getting better gear, and even getting it first, means everyone on the team can get better gear much faster. :D
